Then Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread throughout the entire vicinity. He was teaching in their synagogues, being acclaimed by everyone. He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. As was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him. Unrolling the scroll, He found the place where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
because He has anointed Me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent Me
to proclaim freedom to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.*
He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on Him. He began by saying to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4:14-21 HCSB
Think about the providence of this event. Sabbath liturgy was set a year in advance. On this specific Sabbath the reading just happened to be Isaiah’s prophecy from 700 years earlier about the coming Messiah. And Jesus just happens to be in his hometown and does the Sabbath reading. About himself. “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
God does not have a Plan B or Plan C. He does not react to things working out this way or that. History is unfolding precisely according to plan.
Heads up. There are no coincidences in the providence of God. Our God is a god of Plan A.
