Martin Luther King Jr., Disciple

Jesus On Love:
And one of them, a teacher of the Law, tried to trap him with a question. “Rabboni,” he asked, “which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and the most important commandment. The second most important commandment is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself..’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” Matthew 22:35-40 (GNT / MSG)

The Application:
Martin Luther King Jr. (“MLK”) gives us the application of the ‘second greatest commandment.’ Speaking on the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), MLK said: “I imagine that the first question the priest and Levite asked was: ‘If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?’ The good Samaritan asked a different question: ‘If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?'” [Paraphrased]
