Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never die.” John 11:25-26 NLT

and,

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 NASB (Note 2)

Which made Jesus one of:

1. A lunatic. He believed what He said, but it was not true, in which case He was a certifiable lunatic;
2. A liar. He was same, but knowingly lied; or,
3. Our Lord. He is everything He claimed to be. (Note 3)

Ergo: Christianity, if false, is of no importance. But, if true, is of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.

Note 1: Post adapted from Mere Christianity, C. S. Lewis

Note 2: In his study series, Courageous, Dr Robert Jeffress provides an excellent brief on diversity of belief and pluralism and their impact on this claim of Jesus. See here.

Note 3: Nor can Jesus’s claim to be God be rejected by saying He was simply a great moral teacher, but not the Son of God. A man who was merely a man, and said the sort of things Jesus said, would not be a great moral teacher.
