And people are looking for answers. For something that makes sense of the senseless. That gives hope to the hopeless. As Christians we have the answer. It’s Jesus Christ, the cross, and the empty tomb.
And we have one more thing. The final words of Christ before his Ascension: “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. And then teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.” Matthew 26:18-20
We have been left here for one reason: the Great Commission. And this may just be the easiest time in history to proclaim the Word. Against the backdrop of chaos and evil in the world the Gospel stands in stark clarity and truth.
Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:36-37
The frontiers of the Kingdom of God were never advanced by men and women of caution. (Note 1)
Let us be about our Father’s business. Imagine meeting someone in Heaven in whose saving you played a role. What might they say to you?
