On Troubles, Endurance, and Grit

Endurance and perseverance are at the heart of character. Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us–they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady. Romans 5:3-4 TLB

We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. Romans 5:3-4 MSG

Endurance is steady determination to keep going. It means continuing even when everything in you wants to give up.
