Great Is Thy Faithfulness

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:21-24 ESV

Here, in the midst of God’s people suffering the terrible wrath of God for their manifest falling away, Jeremiah remembers one of The Great Truths. God is faithful.

Based on the words of this passage, the hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness was written by Thomas Chisholm (1866-1960). The hymn was popularized through its use by Billy Graham (1918 – 2018) in his international crusades, and by the evangelist and educator Dr. William Henry Houghton (1887 – 1947).

Let it be your prayer today.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
there is no shadow of turning with Thee,
morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.

Pray. Repeat.
