The Issue Is Now Quite Clear

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. John 1:9-10 NRSV

Today, we have lost any real sense of light in the darkness. We are used to banishing the darkness with the flip of a light switch. It is easy to forget that for most of history, the world has known utter darkness when the sun goes down. We have lost the true significance of a light shining in the dark. And, while electricity has lit up the world in ways heretofore unimaginable, a different sort of darkness has descended, also previously unimaginable. Let’s just name it; we are living in a post-Christian World. And every day brings a clearer picture of the difference between the new darkness and the light.

Perhaps it has not been stated any more clearly than by G. K. Chesterton.  On his deathbed, awakening from a reverie, he said, “The issue is now quite clear. It is between light and darkness and every one must choose his side.”

These words ring ever more true for those of us living today as we see great darkness slowly, but inexorably descend over our country and the world. We are coming to a stage where no man can remain lukewarm, but must choose a side.

Choose wisely. Everything rides on it. God has a calling and plan for you today.
