Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. Psalm 119:35 NLT
In the order of things (gratitude, goodness, happiness, joy), happiness is the third leg.
The world tells us happiness comes from pursuing whatever will make us feel good. Whatever we think will make us happy is good. Such a view is terribly wrong. Sin may bring fleeting happiness. Eventually we’ll discover that sinful actions do not bring lasting happiness; that the consequences of sin (broken relationships, loss, etc.) are anything but happy.
Biblical happiness is an emotion arising from the certain knowledge that Revealed Truth provides the ultimate guide for knowing what will bring us happiness and joy. God wants us to be happy, but it is important to acknowledge that He is our source of happiness. And that if we walk by faith in alignment with God’s Will, all will be right with our world.
