On Gratitude /4

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:14–15 ESV

Here is the thing. Jesus did not come mainly to teach “love thy neighbor,” or “turn the other cheek.” Or even “help the poor.” These are all good things to be sure, just not His primary message.

Jesus’s primary message was one of repentance and salvation. The proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven. Of God’s sovereign rule and reign, now and for all of eternity. And that salvation could not be earned. That it is a free gift. Jesus was calling for heart change. That we repent and believe. Radical inward transformation was the price of kingdom admission. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Gratitude fortifies radical transformation. So pray to God for repentance for as many things as you can think of, but end the prayer with gratitude for His forgiveness.
